Threatened Species Displayed Across the US for Earth Day
Digital Out of Home Ad Displays Will Feature the ‘Protect Our Species’ Campaign
April 10, 2019 (Washington, DC) – Compelling images of threatened species – from eagles to bees – will appear nationwide on donated out of home (OOH) ad space to support Earth Day.
The OOH campaign begins April 10, as part of the build-up to Earth Day on April 22. The #ProtectOurSpecies call to action will be displayed on digital billboards and bus shelters, featuring the earthday.org website.“Today’s unprecedented global destruction of wildlife populations is of great concern,” said Earth Day Network president Kathleen Rogers. “Climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, trafficking and poaching, unsustainable agriculture, pollution and pesticides all take their toll. The impacts are far reaching, which is why we need to spread the word.”
“If we don’t act now,” noted Rogers, “the next extinct species may be our own.”
Thousands of OOH locations will feature vivid photos of important species, including the bee, giraffe, eagle, polar bear, buffalo, sea turtle, and elephant. The advertising space is donated via a new partnership between the Earth Day Network and the Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA).
Earth Day Network is encouraging audiences to share where they are spotting these public service ads– Snap and share photos on social media with the hashtag #ProtectOurSpecies.
“The OOH industry has a long history of supporting public service efforts, including species protection awareness,” said Nancy Fletcher, OAAA’s president and chief executive officer. “We want to do more and are proud to support Earth Day and its awareness campaign.”
OAAA members often volunteer creative services for national OOH public service campaigns. OUTFRONT Studios assisted in the design of the Protect Our Species OOH campaign.
