Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration released updated figures on their Airport Infrastructure Grant program, which has reached $523M in federal funding for 322 projects. The grants have supported terminal, runway, baggage, and tower modernization at airports in 43 states, including recent awards to Baton Rouge, Charlotte, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Miami, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia.

Ad Tax

The Pennsylvania State House passed a bill to bring digital advertisers under the state’s gross receipts tax. The bill would apply to those that provide advertising through a digital interface over Internet based software and is modeled after a controversial Maryland digital ad tax, aspects of which are still tied up in federal and state courts.

Billboard Advocacy

A non-profit advocacy organization launched a $15M summer ad campaign to highlight consumer issues in key U.S. House battleground districts. The billboard ads focus on current Administration economic policies and will run in 16 states – DE, IA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MI, MO, NC, NE, NJ, OH, PA, SC, VA, and WI.

Elections

Twenty-seven states have completed federal primaries this year, in advance of the November general elections. Along the way, the most expensive U.S. Senate primary in history occurred in Texas, with over $165M spent on political advertising in a race that featured an incumbent Senator and the State Attorney General.

Highways

Per statistics from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, highways remain the preferred mode of transportation for U.S. travelers. Of the U.S. traveling public, 91% do so on our nation’s roadways with 87% of that group riding in personal occupancy vehicles.
