Tax Package

Congress passed and President Trump signed a comprehensive federal spending and tax package, after long weekend and all-night legislative sessions. In the U.S. Senate, Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie-breaking vote (51-50) in his constitutional capacity as president of the Senate, with the U.S. House then approving the bill by a vote of 218–214. The legislation (H.R. 1) makes permanent current individual and corporate tax rates; makes numerous business tax changes related to expensing and asset depreciation; raises the exemption cap related to estate taxes; makes permanent the existing tax structure for LLCs and S corporations; and exempts from taxation earnings from tips and overtime.

U.S. DOT

The Senate Commerce Committee approved two key nominees for positions at the U.S. Dept. of Transportation – Bryan Bedford as Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Sean McMaster as Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Both are now pending confirmation before the full Senate. Bedford is the CEO of Republic Airways, a regional air carrier for American, Delta, and United, and McMaster previously worked at U.S. DOT as deputy chief of staff.

Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court wrapped up their 2024-25 term by releasing several much-anticipated rulings. Among them was a case that examined the ability of federal courts to issue nationwide injunctions. In a 6-3 decision, the Court held that “universal injunctions likely exceed the equitable authority that Congress has given the federal courts.” In the first 100 days of the current Trump Administration, there have been 25 injunctions issued by federal district and appellate courts.

States & PSAs

The Outdoor Advertising Association of Connecticut partnered with Gov. Ned Lamont and the state DOT on a work zone safety initiative – Respect the Zone so we all get Home. Meanwhile, the North Carolina Outdoor Advertising Association partnered with the NC Alliance for Safe Transportation to promote highway safety through a proposed mobile phone hands free state law. Thank you to the OAAC and NCOOA for your non-profit and state government partnerships, and for continuing to demonstrate the value and reach of our industry with state officials.
