AAA is a tremendous brand, building high affinity and emotional connection in it’s 120-year history. It is one of the top 100 brands in the country but strives to stay relevant and adapt to a younger, more diverse population. AAA Northeast is one of the larger clubs in the Federation, with territory in New York, northern New Jersey, southern Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The membership base is highly penetrated in Rhode Island and Massachusetts (approximately 50% in each state). In order to maintain its dominance in the roadside assistance industry and continue its growth in insurance, travel and other business lines, AAA must increase awareness in other markets. New York and New Jersey are less penetrated (15% and 23%, respectively) and offer the most opportunity for growth with a younger, diverse demographic. Car ownership in the New York City area is lower than the suburbs, so AAA is not always top of mind. However, AAA offers many more benefits beyond roadside assistance, including branch services like DMV transactions, International Driving Permits and more.
