Out of Home Advertising Up 1.0% in First Quarter 2014

May 21, 2014 (Washington, DC) – OOH advertising revenue rose 1 percent in the first quarter
of 2014 compared to the previous year, accounting for $1.5 billion, based on figures released by
OAAA. The revenue increase marks the industry’s 16th consecutive quarter of growth, and
OOH outperformed radio, newspapers, and magazines, according to Kantar Media.

“The first few months of the year are a testament to the relevance and resilience of OOH," said
OAAA President & CEO Nancy Fletcher. "While most media and many retailers experienced
decreases in revenue due to the extreme weather in the US, OOH again outperformed GDP,
beating it by almost a full percentage point.”

Among the top 10 revenue categories, those with the greatest growth increase included
Insurance & Real Estate +33 percent; Government, Politics & Organizations +19 percent; Retail
+9 percent; Miscellaneous Services and Amusements +7 percent; Public Transportation, Hotels
& Resorts +6 percent; Schools, Camps, and Seminars +3 percent; and Restaurants +2 percent.

Ranked in order of OOH spending, the top 10 advertisers in the first quarter were McDonald’s
Restaurant, Apple, Metro PCS, Chase, Citi, NBC, HBO, Pepsi, T-Mobile, and AT&T.

Among the top 25 OOH advertisers, those with the greatest increase over the first quarter of
2013 were Aio, Sprint, Sony Pictures, AT&T, Pepsi, Comcast, 20th Century Fox Pictures, Citi,
Nissan, Metro PCS, Prudential, HBO, Cracker Barrel, Paramount Pictures, and McDonalds.

“The industry displayed broad strength with increases in the billboard, transit, and street
furniture segments, which also reflects the many ways in which OOH can connect with the
consumer to deliver advertisers’ messages,” said Stephen Freitas, OAAA chief marketing

OAAA issues full industry pro forma revenue estimates that include, but are not limited to, Miller
Kaplan and Kantar Media (which is not adjusted to reflect changes in data sources), and
member company affidavits. Revenue estimates include digital and static billboard, street
furniture, transit, alternative, and cinema advertising.
