Digital Billboards Help FBI in Pennsylvania Manhunt

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Digital Billboards Help FBI in Pennsylvania Manhunt

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 19, 2004 – Expanding the manhunt for a fugitive wanted in the shooting death of a Pennsylvania trooper, the FBI activated hundreds of digital billboards in Pennsylvania and five other states.

These full-color roadside wanted posters feature a phone number for tips and two pictures of fugitive Eric Matthew Frein, accused of killing one Pennsylvania State Police officer and critically wounding another on Sept. 12. Frein is on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list; the agency is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

In 2008, the FBI launched a partnership with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA) to display “wanted” information on digital billboards in real time as investigations unfold. Tips generated by digital billboards have resolved 53 FBI cases, according to the agency.

Anyone with information regarding Frein’s whereabouts should call the State Police tip line at 1-866-326-7256.
