Knoxville FBI launches IC3 billboards

According to a news release, internet crime reports increased last year, with a total of 288,012 complaints. The most common fraud types reported were business email compromise, email account compromise and ransomware. 

Body:
The Knoxville Division of the FBI launched digital billboards throughout the city Friday to promote the establishment of the Internet Crime Complaint Center, or IC3, which was designed to act as a reliable and convenient means of receiving public complaints of internet crimes.

According to a news release, internet crime reports increased last year, with a total of 288,012 complaints. The most common fraud types reported were business email compromise, email account compromise and ransomware. 

As a part of Operation Wellspring, IC3 combines the efforts of the FBI with state and local law enforcement to combat the threat cybercrime by focusing on those that directly impact citizens most. 

Currently, Knoxville is one of 10 FBI field offices with a cyber task force.
