For 73 years, the Outdoor Adv. Assn. of America (OAAA), Washington, DC, has conducted the OBIEs, its award program for outstanding, out-of-home advertising projects. This year’s crop of 38 victors, which were announced on May 12 at OAAA’s annual convention in San Diego, provides yet another glimpse into out-of home advertising’s continuing evolution.

“This year’s winners demonstrated the power of the out-of-home medium to amplify a brand’s message, thereby connecting with and engaging customers,” Stephen Freitas, OAAA’s chief marketing officer, said.

Three projects earned the OBIE’s Best of Show recognition. Adams Outdoor’s (Roswell, GA) execution promoting Sonic Drive-In’s slushies, earned the Best Billboard Campaign designation. Kenneth Cole Productions, the men’s clothier and life-style product purveyor’s in-house creative team, created the “Be The Evolution” promotion for its Mankind fragrance, which earned Best Street Furniture/Transit/Alternative campaign, which was installed within the NYC subway system. And, finally, Copacino+Fujikado earned Best Multi-Format campaign for its billboard and transit-ad program for the Seattle Aquarium.
