Secretary Ridge at National Convention Thanks Outdoor Industry for Public Service

On behalf of President Bush and the nation, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge praised the outdoor advertising industry for donating space for public-service messages that help prepare citizens for possible terrorist attacks.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you," Ridge said in a keynote address on June 10 at the OAAA/TAB National Convention and Trade Show in Washington, DC. "The outdoor industry is providing an invaluable service to Americans by carrying our message to every corner of the nation."

The outdoor advertising industry is a partner in a national multi-media public service campaign to provide Americans with information about specific actions they can take to protect themselves, their families and their communities in the wake of an attack or an emergency situation. The ads direct Americans to visit for information.

The outdoor advertising industry is posting more than 10,000 public service messages valued in excess of $17 million in various formats, including billboards, bus shelters and transit cards. The public service messages were created pro bono by The Martin Agency, based in Richmond, VA.

Ridge said the outdoor industry's current public service effort is the latest chapter in a proud tradition of national service, including patriotic poster art promoting national unity and homeland security in past wars.
