Mini, Taxi Are Kings of the Road
-- Crispin Porter + Bogusky’s Mini campaign racked up another honor on Tuesday, this time at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America’s 61st annual OBIE Awards in
The awards honor creative excellence in outdoor advertising.
The campaign by the
agency won best of show. It features a billboard that shows a car and the tagline, “Let’s motor,” with larger-than-life palm trees seeming to bend back as the car passes. Another billboard shows the car with copy reading “Sliced bread sure had a good long run.”
Twelve other OBIE Awards were presented. Taxi in
won two, the only agency awarded more than one. It won for its Mini Cooper ad that featured an actual Mini mounted on a billboard and a series of bus shelter PSAs for Covenant House, an agency that helps homeless and runaway adolescents.
took home one for a Bank of America campaign urging customers to pay bills online. Foote, Cone & Belding in
won for work for Nabisco’s Lifesavers, giving each Lifesaver flavor a name like “Mr. Popularity.” Brand Architect International in
won for outdoor ads for The Economist, which compared familiar icons such as a litmus strip to the magazine’s red logo.
Old Navy’s in-house creative team earned an OBIE for a campaign with outdoor components including covering the backseats of
taxis with red fleece. Borders Perrin Norrander in
, was recognized for a billboard featuring a Columbia Sportswear jacket. Venables, Bell & Partners in
won for ads for HBO Home Video's OZ TV series.
Boone Oakley Advertising in
, took home an OBIE for its billboards promoting Scarowinds at Paramount Parks (a Halloween event). McGarrah/Jessee in
, won a retail OBIE for work for McCoy's Building Supply Centers depicting a drill bit protruding through a board.
Eisner Communications in
was honored for a taxi-top display for US Airways Shuttle. Zonazero in
, received the special effects OBIE for a PSA, sponsored by Poster Media Outdoor Company, that shows a sleigh crashed through a bus shelter.
The OBIE Hall of Fame Award was given to McDonald's Corp. for long-term excellence in outdoor advertising.
CP+B’s Mini campaign has won numerous awards this year, including five International Andys and best of show in the branded integration category at The One Show. Last year it won two media Lions at the International Advertising Festival in
